Hola - Drongomala here.
It’s not like I haven’t crushed a smartphone underfoot and went to to live in the jungle in my time but that was now decades ago.
We know we need the digital detox. It’s part of modern living. We don’t do it enough. Ya de ya..
I wrote this track a couple of years back. My studio was out of commission so I wrote this one on an MPC (hardware sampler) very late at night whispering so as to not wake the house. It came super quick and the first draft of improvised lyrics made the core of the track. It had a feeling of fragility and solitude.
“I won’t be there when you call…I won’t be anywhere at all”
It got put into the queue for the Mullenia album.
Then Jan 2025 happened. I was hospitalised for most of it with a life threatening secondary complication from an already serious illness discovered after a rush home from Morocco at New Year. January and February were like some waiting room in Valhalla. Industrial techno sounds of MRI machines. Cavernous reverbs. Whispers.
Turned from bull to a lamb. Watching life from the sidelines was something I had chosen to do before but now it was forced upon me.
In March i tried singing again and knew this was the one to finish next. I knew how to mix it now - the lyrics, the arrangement. I’m super proud of this one.
Written, arranged, produced and mixed by Drongomala and aided by the following wonderful musicians.
Rudio Barilari on bass guitar. I just love the simple triplet line he drops in at the end of the song - could last forever.
Juani Seguilead - lead guitar. Juani takes up a good chunk of the bridge. I ended up stripping back all the other instruments mostly to just lead guitar and sound effects as his take was so strong and a singular voice.
Drongomala - vocals, drums/percussion, synth bass, guitars, synths/fx
Song meta tags: isolation, positive solitude, signal to noise ratio, log out, analogue, prologue
